Lisbon to Fátima
People from the south of Portugal have been making pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela since the Middle Ages. Our pilgrimage from Lisbon to Fátima does not follow the traditional route through the interior, but leads pilgrims along the coast and inspires them with fantastic natural experiences.
Many routes run directly along the sea or above the beach along the cliffs with magnificent views. On detours inland, pilgrims experience Portuguese life in the agricultural villages.
In Názare (itself a local pilgrimage destination), this pilgrimage leads away from the sea and heads inland towards Fátima, the "modern" pilgrimage site in the center of Portugal. The Caminho leads pilgrims through many forests and over hills to the destination of this pilgrimage. Visit the holy sites in Fátima and take part in the prayers.

Today, as on every pilgrimage day, we offer a spiritual start to the day.
On this day, the pilgrim is led along the coast through the hills of the hinterland with gentle ups and downs. Again and again, fantastic views of the sea open up and reward pilgrims for their efforts.
(15.8 km - easy to moderate, +495 m, -495 m)
This pilgrimage day begins by crossing the beautiful village of Azenhas do Mar. Later, the route continues high above the sea through the interior, past fields and through villages to Praia de São Juliano, where you can enjoy the magnificent view over a coffee. Afterwards, the last few kilometers to the town of Ericeira are easier.
(23.6 km - strenuous, +790 m, -775 m)
After leaving the urban area, this stage is characterized by the steep coast and many small paths along it. You often descend to small, romantic beaches that invite you to take a dip in the sea. You will spend the night at the beautiful Praia Azul.
(21.3 km - moderate, +500 m, -500 m)
The Caminho leaves the coast via Santa Cruz and leads the pilgrim inland through fields with greenhouses, past more and more windmills and through large, friendly villages. In the afternoon, you return to the coast with fantastic views as far as the "beach with the white sand".
(22.6 km - easy, +460 m, -480 m)
This day is one of the most varied. Along the cliffs, through vast cabbage fields, past two beaches and finally through a huge sea of bamboo reeds, interrupted only by agricultural fields, you finally reach Ferrel.
(18.7 km - easy, +320 m, -280 m)
This day welcomes the pilgrim with a beautiful path through a large eucalyptus forest with a wonderfully fresh scent. The route continues to the Óbidos lagoon, which is circumnavigated by a long path. The Caminho often leads directly along the water and through reed beds and wetlands. The stage finish is the small town of Foz do Arelho, which is beautifully situated on the lagoon.
(25.4 km - moderate, +415 m, -440 m)
After Foz do Arelho, the pilgrimage route initially follows a ridge along the coast. Again and again, there are stunning views of the sea and the green interior. The route follows gravel tracks and small tarred roads through forests and small villages. Later, on the way back to the coast, you will pass through a beautiful mixed forest until your gaze finally falls on the fantastic bay of São Martinho do Porto.
(14.9 km - easy, +250 m, -260 m)
In the morning, the route continues along the cliffs and then behind the dunes to Nazaré, the destination of this short and friendly stage. In Nazaré, pilgrims can visit the pilgrimage chapel of Nossa Senhora da Nazaré at the top of the cliff in the afternoon in order to shorten the day's distance the next day. A very pilgrim-friendly cable car leads up to the cliff.
(14.4 km - easy, +255 m, -250 m)
In the morning, the pilgrim leaves this lively little town, which is characterized by tourism. *
Transfer from the airport to the Way of St. James: We specify an arrival time (and departure time) at one of the main airports for the Way of St. James. You travel independently up to this time and we organize the transfer to the Way of St. James (or back).
Exceptions to this are the start and end locations that have their own international airport (Santiago, Porto, Lisbon) and the tours in Andalusia, which can be reached via a number of different airports. There, arrival and departure are self-organized.
**
Half-board tour PK1 Lisbon: Meals start with breakfast on the first day of the pilgrimage and end with dinner on the day of arrival in Fátima.
***
No supervision by the tour guide on the rest days and on the days off. The tour guide does not walk with the pilgrims on the Way of St. James on the pilgrimage days, but organizes the luggage transport and can be reached with the support vehicle in case of emergencies.
This route is not yet marked with the familiar arrows. We provide maps with the marked route for you to download. You can also download the correct GPX track so that you can always find your way safely using your smartphone. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
This new trail is beautiful, but you should bring a little sense of direction and a sense of adventure with you. However, you don't necessarily need to be a seasoned scout.
As there is not yet a German-language pilgrim's guide for this route, we will provide you with a more comprehensive pilgrim's folder with lots of information.
The minimum number of participants for our group tours is usually 8 people. If this number is not reached at least 4 weeks before the start of the tour, Pilgino has the right to cancel the tour. In this case, you will receive a full refund of your deposit or the tour price already paid.
